Former Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler, who played three seasons of his NFL career in Denver, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and possession of a handgun after a minor collision on Thursday in Franklin Tennessee, according to Denver 7 via the Associated Press.
Cutler, 41, has been released and given a $5,000 bond, according to an official statement from the Franklin Police Department.
Authorities say that they responded to an incident where it appeared that Cutler’s vehicle rear-ended another and the officers on the scene reportedly detected the smell of alcohol on Cutler, who also had blood-shot eyes and was slurring his words, per the police department.
Cutler refused a field sobriety test and was taken to a hospital where a blood sample was obtained after getting a search warrant, per the statement.
Police say that they also found two firearms in the car, which included a loaded pistol.
Cutler was also charged with failure to exercise due care to avoid a collision and violating implied consent.
